The "Sustainability Strategy" (2013-2015)
During 2012 the Board of Trustees recognised the implications of the governments “grant funding” crises and have developed a comprehensive “Sustainability Strategy” to reduce the dependence on “grant funding” over the next 3 years. This strategy is based on the transition to a “Social Enterprise”, in line with global trends, that enables non-profit organisations to conduct commercial business activities under the existing legal framework, to fund their “social purpose” programmes.
The Trust currently has 4 main integrated "social purpose" programmes that provide comprehensive "community and social development" services to the impoverished communities of the Overstrand, in the Western Cape.
These 4 programmes will continue to be the Trusts prime priority and will be co-funded by 3 new commercial business activities that will be implemented over the next 3 years.
Unfortunately, the establishment of a “Social Enterprise” requires additional capital and will take a number of years to be fully operational and able to cross fund our “Community and Social Development” Programmes. This means we need support to find a way to bridge this funding gap.
